Water quality: The PH of circulating water is maintained between 6 and 9 (PH of 7 is pure water). PH value is too high or too low, it will damage the wet curtain; The precipitation of calcium carbonate in hard water has no damage to the wet curtain and should be kept within a limited range of sodium chloride (soft water) concentration. If it exceeds (or about) 50,00ppm, it will precipitate the salt material on the wet curtain and reduce the airflow through it; The concentration of salt in circulating water must be less than 50000ppm, and the concentration of salt in mixed water must be less than 40000ppm.

Cleaning: If the dust in the air tends to block the passage of the airflow, the normal operation of the system can usually remove these obstacles. Spray with low pressure steam or rub lightly if necessary. Never use chemicals such as chlorine or other pungent odors to clean.

The application and understanding of the water curtain evaporation cooling system is the most misunderstood and misused area in aquaculture production. The understanding is that the more water evaporates, the cooler the environment and the more the temperature drops, which is not true. The amount of temperature drop that can be obtained in a chicken house with a water curtain evaporation cooling system is related to many factors. It is the evaporation of water, not the cooling of water, that takes away the heat. The first important condition is the temperature at the time and the relative humidity of the air.

The second condition is the type of medium (curtain paper) used to vaporize the water vapor. In the past few years, several types of media have been tried to make water curtain paper, but later returned to paper production.

The principle of the evaporative cooling system is to humidify the surface of the curtain paper and evaporate water vapor from the surface of the paper. The length and Angle of the air inlet pipe through the curtain paper will affect the amount of water vapor obtained. The 3/8 inch (1cm) diameter of the inlet pipe can produce good gas resistance when air passes through the curtain paper, because the gas will create friction when it passes through the curtain paper, friction causes the temperature to rise, which will produce a higher level of evaporation.

The third is the amount of resistance or wind speed through the curtain. The area of the curtain paper should be determined only by the amount of ventilation of the exhaust fan that pushes the air through the curtain paper. If the area of the curtain paper is too large or too small compared to the ventilation of the exhaust fan, the evaporation speed is not ideal. If the wind speed through the water curtain paper is too fast, the water will leave the surface of the water curtain paper and cause the humidity of the chicken house to rise, and the ground near the water curtain cooling system will become wet. If the wind speed through the curtain paper is too slow, it will not generate enough friction inside the curtain paper to heat up, the evaporation rate will be too slow, and the temperature will be unsatisfactory.

Temperature, wind speed and evaporation of water molecules are three factors that affect evaporation more than any other. The hotter the air, the higher the ability of the air to hold moisture (water content), the higher the level of evaporation. The higher the humidity, the lower the evaporation rate, because the water content of the air is nearly saturated, and it has carried too much water. This is why the temperature of the air has such an important effect on the rate of evaporation.
